primer is cheap insurance!

We have worked in several states, from Tampa to South Carolina finally returning to Philadelphia and scratching the surface in NYC.

The one and biggest problem I have encountered as a craftsman/painting company is the lack of knowledge in the coatings industry. SW & BM have not done a great job of teaching their client base the importance of using primer.

It makes our job so much harder when I estimate a project thinking the previous painter did the right thing, only to find out the paint starts to peel off as soon as we start sending the first door on a 28-door interior project.

Primer is sorta of a problem solver, we use on walls, trim work, mold and mildew from shellac to oil, alkyd acrylic, polyester 2ks you name it.

🎨 Why Primer Matters Before a Top Coat:

1. Better Adhesion

Primer creates a grippy surface that helps the top coat stick properly. Without it, the paint might peel, chip, or flake off more easily.

2. Smoother Finish

Primer helps fill in small imperfections and evens out the surface texture, so the top coat goes on smoother and looks more polished.

3. Improved Coverage

Primer seals porous surfaces like bare wood, drywall, or masonry. That means you'll need fewer layers of top coat to get solid, even color.

4. Prevents Stains & Bleed-Through

On tricky surfaces (like wood with knots, or previously painted walls), stains or darker colors can bleed through the top coat. Primer blocks that.

5. Enhances Durability

Using a primer adds to the longevity of your paint job—it can help resist moisture, mildew, and general wear and tear over time.
